On The Anniversary of the murder of Matthew Shepard I am posting "Calamus Songs" with poems by Walt Whitman; Christopher Aaron Smith, tenor perfoms with Boston Metro Opera and music by David Edgar Walther. This is also the day when the Senate starts hearings to replace Ruth Bader Ginsberg with someone who may very soon set civil rights back for decades for women, Jews, Moslems, Mormons, "Dreamers," LGBTQ community, and people who are unemployed or have "pre-existing medical conditions" (including complications from the Coronavirus). Instead, on this day, let us celebrate the life of the man who was tortured and murdered for the love that is expressed in these songs... gay love that, in his 21 years, he never found. R. I. P. Matthew Shepard.
